Polish Language, Literature and Culture

In the broadest sense, Polish Studies refers to the study of all forms of the spiritual and material culture of the Polish people. In a narrower sense, it can be understood as a philological, Slavic discipline, involving the cultivation of knowledge about the Polish language and literature, based on humanistic inquiry. Interests and various forms of popularization of the cultural values of the Polish people appeared quite early in Serbia, but Polish Studies as a specific discipline was established at the end of the 19th century as a part of the Slavic Department.

The Polish Studies program involves the dedicated study of the Polish language, literature and culture, as well as the centuries-old history and traditions of the Poles, with frequent reference to the latest scientific and artistic achievements. Modern textbooks, a rich library and modern technology, on the one hand, and visiting writers, translators, professors and diplomats on the other, make our teaching interactive and all the more interesting and inspiring.

Work in small groups guarantees that teaching staff will dedicate themselves to every student and ensures rapid progress. The target language level of Polish upon graduation is C1. By learning another compulsory Slavic language and one other elective one, students will acquire as many as three new languages at different levels. Thanks to the Language, Literature and Culture program, they will learn about another Slavic literature and culture, and, in line with their interests, many other world literatures and cultures.
