Russian Language, Literature and Culture

Russian language studies at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade have a long tradition. The decision to establish the Department of Russian Language and Literature at the History and Film Department of the University of Belgrade (the former Great School) was made in 1877. Students have at their disposal a rich Slavic library, a modernly equipped center ‘Ruskiй mir’ with computers and a reference library, and the Russian cultural center ‘Ruski dom’ with a library, reading room and bookshop, where specialized Russian literature and fiction can be found, as well as various cultural offerings: film screenings, concerts, and exhibitions. The cultural life of Belgrade with its numerous film, theater and music festivals, scientific and academic conferences, and sporting and other events offers students the opportunity to gain experience as translators and organizers. Undergraduate programs last for 4 years (8 semesters), after which students can continue their professional development with master's studies for one year and doctoral studies for 3 years. Previous knowledge of Russian is not a prerequisite. There are groups for beginners and non-beginners, with classes during the first two years fully adapted to beginners.
