Slovak Language, Literature and Culture

During your studies at this Department, the aim will be to reach C1 level in Slovak and to learn to translate from Slovak to Serbian and vice versa. You will also master a second Slavic language in addition to another elective language (which does not have to be a Slavic one). Thus, upon graduating, you will speak as many as three new languages at different levels. The program is designed in such a way that through various modules you will study the history of Slovakia and Slovak culture – both contemporary and traditional (literature, theater, architecture, painting, sculpture, music, and film). You will deal with various fields in line with your individual interests. The emphasis is on the study of language and literature in comparison (contrastively) with other Slavic languages and literatures, and thus you will acquire a broad Slavic education that creates opportunities for further personal development. You will get to know the history of Slovak literature and will read translations of Slovak authors, as well as the works of Slovak writers in the original. Thus, you will acquire historical and theoretical literary knowledge and the skill of analyzing a literary text. Elective courses provided by the study program offer you the opportunity to develop in accordance with your own interests and preferences.
