      The goal A Short Guide to the French Novel is an intense, two-semester course in the history of the novel, whose goal is to introduce undergraduate students to the key actors and most important works of nineteenth-century French prose.

      Contents of lectures (I) Second semester (prof. Elez): Flaubert and Zola. An overview of the main topics, stylistic features, and narrative strategies in their main works. (II) Concluding classes (prof. Elez and prof. Dušanić): the nineteenth-century French novel and its heritage.
      Contents of exercises Close reading and discussion of the texts. The application of theoretical insights on chosen examples from Flaubert's and Zola's works.
