Programs of Study – Undergraduate Studies

During their studies, students will cover the following fields: the history of books and libraries, knowledge management, librarianship, bibliography, museology, archival science, library IT, computational linguistics, management, and marketing in cultural institutions. They will acquire the skills necessary to find, organize, and distribute information recorded in books, journals, newspapers, and archival material, but also in many other formats on screen, paper or any other medium. By the time they graduate, they will have a good command of the communication process and will have acquired knowledge of programming, as well as the management of web pages and databases. Research will become interesting and simple for them because they will have a firm grasp on the organization of knowledge and the structure of information and will be specialized in searching through the most diverse catalogs and databases.

History

Education of library staff at the higher education level began in Serbia in 1963, when the Department of Library Studies was established at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. As the first of its kind in all of Yugoslavia, the Department piqued the interest of librarians, libraries and library associations.

Library

The Department of Library and Information Science Library has nearly 5,000 publications that meet the needs of the Department’s students and teaching staff. As such, it contains a reference collection, literature in the fields of library science, information science, the history of books and libraries, museology, cultural studies, archival science, management, and a number of local and foreign fictional works. The reading room (Room 525) has space for six scholars and is open on weekdays from 10am to 3pm.
