The goal The Czech Literature 6 course focuses on the overview of the development of Czech prose in the 20th and 21st centuries, primarily on the genesis of the Czech novel, through three separate stages related to interwar literature, dissident literature, and postmodern Czech literature. By carefully selecting authors, whose works represent in the best possible way the distinct characteristics of each different stage in the development of Czech literature, we define the goal of the course, which refers to the possibility for students to become familiar with specific literary poetics, to be able to recognize external impulses and conditions of literary development, to gain knowledge about inter-literary influences, the activities of literary magazines, etc.
The outcome The students gain the capability to analyze the prose works of Czech authors; analyze various genres of Czech prose of the 20th and 21st centuries; analyze and explain different narrative processes; compare Czech literary production with European and world literature; describe the socio-historical and cultural conditions of the development of Czech literature in the 20th century.
