The goal Objective of the course is to provide a high level of general and special knowledge in the field of ancient erotology. The acquisition of knowledge takes place in three aspects: cultural-historical, philosophical-theoretical and hermeneutic-aesthetic. From a cultural-historical point of view, the aim of the course is to look at the origin, evolution and transformation of erotological conceptions in ancient poetry and philosophy, as well as to observe their cultural context, from the Homeric to the late antique period. From a philosophical-theoretical point of view, the goal of the course is to look at the semantic richness of the phenomena of logos and eros, as well as their synthesis in the erotological phenomenon as one of the dominant flows of ancient culture, which strongly shapes the European heritage, but also the global present, both in the sphere of elitist culture and humanistic research, as well as in the sphere of popular creativity. From a hermeneutic-aesthetic point of view, the goal of the course is the hermeneutic study of a number of genres, epochs and expressively different literary-cultural phenomena and, based on these insights, asking questions about the meaning and significance of the interweaving of eros and logos in any epochal and cultural community.
The outcome Learning outcomes of the course lie in the ability to deeply analyze the great erotological texts, from Homer to Ovid, and especially to investigate the complex erotological vision expressed in Sapphira's fragments and selected dialogues of Plato, following how the ambiguous vision of eros is shaped both as a deity and as a concept. It will also teach the skills needed to see the phenomenon of erotology in the context of contemporary humanities disciplines.

Contents of lectures The content of the course consists of erotological hermeneutics of selected texts of ancient culture - from Homer, through Hesiod, Sappho, a number of Hellenic lyricists and Euripides to Plato, Hellenistic and Roman poets. With respect for the multiple meanings of the poetic work, the hermeneutic analysis will be focused on the pivotal phenomenon of eros and a series of consubstantial phenomena. Each of the participants of the course will be invited to realize an individual and creative encounter with poetic texts, but also to shape their own definition of eros as in ancient culture.
