    The goal The course aims to encourage the student to do independent scientific and research work aimed at the study of various areas that deal with the theme of the city from a literary, but also a sociological, psychological, artistic, architectural, and other points of view so that he can synthesize the researched material into a unique cohesive whole. The suggested extensive auxiliary and recommended literature are only guidelines that the student should be guided by in his research, with the suggestion that each of the interested candidates in this course can individually propose both the research corpus and other literature, in connection with which one of the goals of this course is the development of creative abilities and the independent engagement of students.
    The outcome The student explains the peculiarities of the specific author's poetics related to the topic of the city; analyzes the dialectics of urban, rural, or exotic environments; explains the concept of virtual space and heterotopia; compares the theme of the city in works of different writers; separates documentary from fiction prose related to the city, synthesizes data into independent scientific research work.

    Contents of lectures Presentation of the dialectic of the inner (closed) and outer (open space) of the city through its history, cultural heritage, important institutions, and architectural achievements. A City in History by Lewis Mumford. "Haunted builder" - Bogdan Bogdanović. The city experienced as a constant of Jaroslav Seyfert's poetic expression. Prague seen as the genius loci of Danijela Hodrova's prose. Kafka and Meyrink's Prague. Belgrade in the literary work of Svetlana Velmar-Janković. Another and different city of Mihal Aivaz. The city interpreted as a labyrinth of Miloš Urban's being. Themes about the city through various monographs, travelogues, literary theories, various essays, and memoirs.
    Contents of exercises Interactive teaching, presentation of students on different monographs about the city, essay writing, research on the comparative approach to the theme of the city by different authors.
