      The goal The aim of the course is to acquire the basic literary-theoretical knowledge of the tragic hero of the literary works of antiquity.
      The outcome The outcome of the course is the application of acquired theoretical knowledge in understanding the functioning of the ancient tragedy and the epic.

      Contents of lectures A tragic thought in ancient Greece. Homer’s epics and hero’s tragedy. Achilles and tragic of warrior’s ideal. Hector’s tragedy. Aristotle about a tragic hero. Aristotle about guilty of a tragic hero. Ethics and tragedy. A tragic hero and forms of provoking a tragic páthos. Plot and the character of a tragic hero. Hegel’s view of tragic hero. Nietzsche’s understanding of a tragic hero. Metaphysical forces and a tragic hero. Individuality of a tragic hero. Passion as initiator of the hero’s actions.
