      The goal Acquisition of relevant knowledge about the Spanish Baroque period and its political, social and cultural characteristics. Acquisition of information about the literary characteristics of the period, as well as about the main authors and their achievements in the field of drama and theater. Getting acquainted with the new comedy in theory and practice, as well as its echo in the European and world context, and also in Serbia.
      The outcome The student acquires the necessary knowledge of classical Spanish drama (New Comedy) and theatrical life in the Iberian Peninsula (1580-1650). He learns to understand the dramatic system of Lope de Vega, its formal and textual characteristics, which he then recognizes in the works of numerous successors. He is able to appreciate their high artistic value and recognize what they are based on, both in the context of Spanish literature and the literary heritage of the world.

      Contents of lectures The concept of baroque in Spanish literature. Cultural-historical context. General characteristics. Cultismo (culteranismo), conceptismo. Spanish national theater. The main dramatic types: comedia nueva, tragedia, auto sacramental, entremés. Organization of theatrical life; corrales de comedias. Lope de Vega. Arte nuevo de hacer comedias. Controversy about the new comedy. Lope's plays on themes of national history and legend; comedias. The followers of Lope. Tirso de Molina. El burlador de Sevilla - the creation of the myth of Don Juan. The second phase of the new comedy. Calderón de la Barca. Philosophical drama La vida es sueño. Other works; El alcalde de Zalamea. Autosacramental La vida es sueño and El gran teatro del mundo. Spanish baroque drama in Serbia.
      Contents of exercises Exercises, reading works, interpretation and analysis of texts, written works, expositions and discussions. Independent work, learning with the help of a computer. Use of electronic resources recommended through the MOODLE platform.
