The goal | Pointing out the continuity of intertwining of literary and ethnological discourses (from Dositej to contemporary literature). Defining literary ethnographisms, comparison of ethnographic descriptions in the text (Vuk, folklore realist writers) and their ethnographic equivalents. Discovering pieces of ethnographic information and study of their literary functions. Becoming familiar with ethnographic reading of literary texts; the interpretational potential of Van Gennep's rites of passage.
The outcome | The student will successfully identify ethnographic information in the texts from different periods of literary history and analyze their function in the text. He/she will become familiar with the most important ethnological studies that deal with literary texts as well. Through a different interdisciplinary approach, or through a change in the hermeneutical framework for reception, he/she will be revealing new and forgotten meanings of literary texts.
