The goal | Acquiring operational knowledge of the Russian lexical system, its structure, and functioning on a synchronous level, developing the ability to observe and analyze lexical and phraseological phenomena and elements for their adequate reception and finding translation equivalents, gaining systematic knowledge of monolingual and translation lexicography, training for the use of dictionaries. | |||

Contents of lectures | Lexicology as a science (subject, tasks, areas). Lexicography. Types of dictionaries, structure of a dictionary entry. Word, lexeme, lemma. Lexical meanings. Monosemy and polysemy. Intra-lexical systematicity: synonymy, antonymy, homonymy, paronymy. Inter-lexical homonymy and paronymy. Depletion. General vocabulary and terminology. Russian language lexicon by origin. Archaic terms. Historical terms. Neologisms. Occasional terms. Professional terms. Lexicon according to stylistic markedness. Phraseology (types of phraseological units, functions, cultural and stylistic potential). | |||
Contents of exercises | Developing the skill of using dictionaries of various types and orientations in a dictionary entry. Analysis of lexemes according to types of lexical meanings, origin, usage value, stylistic markedness.
