The goal Students will learn about the basics of religious systems of Islam and Christianity, but from a cultural rather than theological point of view. The course participants will compare the basic settings of Islam and Christianity, as well as the civilizations created on their basis. Special attention will be focused on dogmatic differences, but also the similarities between the two religions, which enable dialogue between Islam and Christianity on a cultural level. The position of Christians living in predominantly Muslim countries (Lebanon, Syria, Egypt) as well as Muslims living in Western Europe and America will be analysed.
The outcome Students will adopt knowledge about the basics of Islam and Christianity, and will be able to discuss and analyze the similarities and differences between the two religions competently. Participants will discuss the possibilities of inter-religious dialogue, as well as note the differences between Islam and Christianity that are bridged and which are not. On that basis, they will be able to consider the position of Christians living in predominantly Muslim countries (Lebanon, Syria, Egypt), as well as Muslims living in predominantly Christian backgrounds. They will independently analyze the processes of agriculture and their flows in both groups.
