The goal | Acquiring basic knowledge about ancient, classical and folk literature of Japan. Looking at the connection between oral and written literature and pointing out the international components and local peculiarities of the Japanese tradition. | |||
The outcome | The student becomes familiar with the most important works of Japanese ancient and classical literature and observes thematic-motive similarities and differences between myths and oral narrative types, both within Japanese literature and more broadly, in the world context. | |||
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | The course provides an insight into the comparative study of the oldest literary works and oral narrative genres in Japan. The interweaving of oral and written in those texts, transformations of thematic-motive content, transposition of motifs, etc., are investigated. Parallels with the literature of neighboring nations and with related genres from European and world literature are highlighted, with a special emphasis on Serbian oral prose. | |||
