Contents of lectures Japanese culture and society are undergoing a continuous process of change. However, tradition and modernity have always coexisted in a distinctive harmony, as new elements have been incorporated into traditional culture in ways that allow them to complement one another. Modern Japanese culture is deeply imbued with elements of traditional culture, yet the differences between the two remain clearly visible. Rather than being mutually exclusive, tradition and modernity complement each other in highly distinctive ways, creating a harmonious synthesis of traditional and modern culture.
