| The goal | The goal of the subject is to enable students to independently identify, analyze and present problems in the field of linguistic typology of Polish language in contrast with other Slavic languages (Serbian, Russian, Czech, Slovak, Ukrainian, Belarus...) | |||
| The outcome | Students will acquire deeper understanding about how Slavic language use the potentials of their grammatical and lexical system differently, in spite their genetic similarities. Students will learn to spot small differences between the languages, varieties inside one language, as well as convergence and divergence tendencies between them. | |||
| Contents | ||||
| Contents of lectures | Students will get acquainted with the basics of the methodology of contrastive studies in the linguistic Slavistics. They will be introduced into differences between historical-comparative method, which is traditional in the Belgrade Slavistics, and typological (contrastive) analysis. They will learn to identify, isolate, and analyze linguistic problems in the source language and contrast it with the target language. A special attention will be dedicated to the analysis of the third element of comparison (tertium comparationis), which makes possible contrasting of more than two (e.g. three, four, etc.) Slavic languages at once. | |||
| Contents of exercises | Case studies in the field of phonetics, phonology, morphology (morphological typology), syntax (formal syntax, morphosyntax, distributional syntax) and lexicology. The Polish language can be used as the source, or the target language; any Slavic language, or more of them, can be involved in contrasting. | |||
