| The goal | The study of the phenomena characteristic of the Judeo-Spanish language and the culture of Sephardic communities within the framework of the linguistic and cultural history of the Balkans. Observing the linguistic and cultural similarities and differences between the Sephardim and their neighbours. Highlighting the need for Balkan studies to be directed more towards comparative and holistic research. Overcoming stereotypes and encouraging inter-ethnic dialogue. | |||

| Contents of lectures | Basic concepts and terminology of Sephardic/Jewish (socio)linguistic and cultural-historical studies. Judeo-Spanish language and culture from internal and external perspectives. Balkan diversity and multilingualism through time: similarities and differences between the languages and cultures of the Balkan peoples. Main themes and methodology of Balkanological studies in different eras. The attitudes towards the language and culture of the Sephardim. Possibilities for introducing a contemporary critical and interdisciplinary approach. | |||
