      The goal • Acquiring basic knowledge about the history and development of classical Persian literature • Familiarity with classical Persian poetry and prose from primary sources • Developing an understanding of the rhetorical devices used in classical Persian literature.
      The outcome By the end of the course, students are expected to be familiar with the major developments in classical Persian literature and to know the major literary genres of Persian poetry and their characteristics. Students who pass the exam will be introduced to the literary works of very famous classical Iranian poets such as Ferdowsi, Attar, Hafez, Sa'adi and Rumi and develop the ability to understand the conceptual framework of classical Persian literature through its cultural and historical background.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures An overview of the history and development of the Persian language, literary history, pre-Islamic Persian literature, classical Persian prose compared to poetry, classical Persian literary schools, very famous poets and their masterpieces (10th to 14th centuries), epics, Sufi poetry.
