The goal | Ability to do semantic analysis of the linguistic material of Scandinavian languages according to the theoretical framework of cognitive linguistics and other modern approaches to the study of semantics; contrasting with the Serbian language. Acquiring knowledge about the cognitive linguistics, its approach to linguistic meaning and the relationship between language and reality; knowledge about other modern approaches to semantics and comparison with previously acquired knowledge in that area. Acquiring knowledge about conceptual metaphor and metonymy and applying that knowledge to the linguistic material of Scandinavian languages while contrasting with the Serbian language. | |||
The outcome | Students have aquired the basics of cognitive semantics, they know how to place it in the context of general linguistic research and to explain similarities and differences in relation to other semantic theories; students have a good command of semantic analysis according to the settings of cognitive semantics; they are familiar with the prototype theory, the basic characteristics of conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy and they are able to apply them in the analysis of linguistic material of modern Scandinavian languages. | |||

Contents of lectures | The basics of cognitive semantics with reference to the basics of other modern approaches to the study of semantics: the concept of meaning, the relationship between language and reality, the relationship between language and encyclopedic knowledge, semantic analysis according to the cognitive-linguistic theoretical framework; categorization, prototype theory, conceptual metaphor and metonymy. | |||
Contents of exercises | Identification of conceptual metaphor and metonymy in texts in modern Scandinavian languages; determining the difference between the categorization of certain elements of human experience in the Scandinavian languages and the Serbian language; analysis of polysemantic structures of certain lexemes in Scandinavian languages from the perspective of modern approaches to the study of semantics. | |||
