      The goal Objective of the course is to provide a basic level of knowledge of the general literature of the ancient century, from the Sumerian-Babylonian tradition to early medieval works. The acquisition of knowledge takes place in three aspects: literary-historical, literary-theoretical and hermeneutic-aesthetic. From a literary-historical point of view, the aim is to get acquainted with the basic currents of Sumerian-Babylonian, biblical, Hellenic, Hellenistic, late antique and early medieval literature, their development and intertextual interpenetrations. In terms of literary theory, the aim of the course is to acquire basic knowledge about the origin, evolution and transformation of exemplary genres (epic, lyrical genres, dramatic genres, rhetorical and philosophical genres, biblical genres), as well as their consideration within the framework of contemporary theoretical paradigms. From a hermeneutic-aesthetic point of view, the goal is to acquire the ability to independently interpret, analyze and recognize the aesthetic values ​​of exemplary literary works that belong to the mentioned literary traditions, while observing their individual characteristics and contextual peculiarities.
      The outcome Learning outcomes of the course lie in acquiring basic knowledge about the development trends and intertextual dynamics of Sumerian-Babylonian, Biblical, Hellenic, Hellenistic, late antique and early medieval literature, as well as about the origin, evolution and transformation of exemplary genres. The ability to interpret literary works will be deepened and the ability to hermeneutically analyze unique literary phenomena and exemplary works of this era will be acquired, while considering their aesthetic and contextual peculiarities.

      Contents of lectures Methodological introduction; theoretical concept and basic evolutionary directions of the epic in ancient literature; the ontological status of the epic hero and the peculiarities of epic fictionality; hermeneutic analysis of the Epic of Gilgamesh. The Homeric question, the complexity of the historical-cultural context; general features of Homer's poetics. Hermeneutic analysis of Iliad and Odyssey. Hellenistic epic: cultural context and change of aesthetic paradigm; Virgil's poetics and hermeneutic analysis of the Aeneid. Theoretical concept of lyrics; basic evolutionary directions of lyric poetry in ancient literature as a whole - archaic, Hellenistic, Roman period; species, cultural context and hermeneutic analysis. Theoretical concept of drama - basic evolutionary directions. The origin of tragedy and comedy - political-cultural, ritual and philosophical-theological context. Hermeneutic analysis of the plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes. Ancient prose - historiography, epistolography, rhetoric - rhetorical genres and meta-rhetorical texts; philosophical dialogue; ancient novel. Biblical literature - Old and New Testament.
