      The goal A detailed presentation of the origin and historical development of the Czech state. Acceptance of Christianity on the territory of Great Moravia, the foundation of the state of Přemysl, and political development throughout the Middle Ages until the beginning of the 18th century. Presenting the most important conditions of all social changes, as well as the acquisition of knowledge related to various artistic and stylistic trends that have left a lasting mark, especially in the architecture of the countries of the Czech crown (Romanesque art, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque).
      The outcome The student will be able to explain the historical development of the Czech state, analyze cause-and-effect relationships of cultural and artistic reach, compare Romanesque and Gothic architecture with similar buildings in Europe, describe the conditions of continuous artistic development in the Czech Republic from the earliest monuments created on the territory of Great Moravia to the period of classicism.

      Contents of lectures The oldest history of Bohemia and Moravia; Czech lands in the 7th and 8th centuries; Principality of Great Moravia; Cyril and Methodius Mission; Beginnings of the Přemysl's State: Cult of St. Wenceslas; Czech principality in the 11th and 12th centuries; Romanesque art and architecture; the Czech Kingdom in the 13th century; Czech monasteries, medieval fortifications, chivalric culture, Gothic in the Czech lands; Political changes in the 14th century and the Luxembourg era; Hussite movement in the 15th century; Czech estate state; Renaissance; Czech lands after the Battle of Bílá Hora; Baroque; Classicism.
      Contents of exercises The student chooses topics from the studied areas, and prepares and presents the content.
