The goal | The course Poetics of Milan Kundera 2 is focused on getting to know Kundera's poetics of novels through selected problematic issues that appear throughout Kundera's creative opus. Therefore, the aim of the course is not only to acquaint the student with the identity problems of Kundera's heroes, with the subject's relationship to history, the meaning of the lyrical age and bad faith, the impossibility of realizing Don Juanism in the modern age, the hero's relationship to the body but above all to acquire the knowledge and ability of the student to independently research and observe the new thematic patterns and problematic issues, whose model is applicable for researching the works of other writers of different poetic directions. | |||
The outcome | The student acquires the ability to analyze the chronological literary creativity of Milan Kundera through isolated problem questions. He masters the interpretation of Kundera's art of novels. The student can separate a specific problem and present it comparatively in Milan Kundera's entire prose work. Independently researches and applies acquired knowledge and conclusions in written work. | |||

Contents of lectures | The impossibility of Donjuanism in the modern world and Kundera's interpretation of this term; The nature of Kundera's laughter, the function of irony and jokes in the novel and short stories; The attitude of Kundera's heroes towards history and Kundera's understanding of history; The meaning of the lyric age in the poetics of Milan Kundera's novel and the author's attitude towards it; Types of women in Kundera's prose - interpretation of the characters homohysterikus and homosentimentalis; Kundera's heroes under the influence of bad faith - the meaning of the term and its connection with Sartre's Being and nothingness; The identity problem of Kundera's heroes; dream as a medium for examining human identity (interpretations and examples); The attitude of Kundera's heroes towards the body; The problem of immortality in Kundera's novels.
