      The goal Students will learn the theoretical aspect of the theatrical movements of the 19th and 20th centuries in France, they will learn to analyze independently texts that illustrate certain poetic principles, in the service of their future study of French literature and the teaching of French as a foreign language.
      The outcome Students will master the key concepts of literary criticism necessary for the analysis of a literary text, develop critical and analytical thinking in the field of literary analysis, and become qualified for independent professional practice as well as for the application of acquired knowledge in the teaching of French language, literature, and culture.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures Dramatic texts are interpreted that illustrate the main principles of French theater in the 19th and 20th centuries: Romantic theater of the 19th century: Victor Hugo - Preface to Cromwell, Alfred de Vigny (Chatterton), Alfred de Musset (Lorenzaccio). French theater of the 20th century - French Theater after 1940 - Voices of Tradition - excerpts from the dramatic texts of Jean Anouilh, Henri de Montherlant, Jacques Cocteau, Jean Giraudoux are interpreted; New Theater - excerpts from the dramatic texts of Eugène Ionesco, Samuel Beckett, Jean Genet, Alfred Jarry and Antonin Artaud are interpreted; French existentialist theater and theater of the absurd - excerpts from the dramatic texts of Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus are interpreted; French contemporary theater - excerpts from the dramatic texts of Marguerite Duras, Yasmina Reza, Bernard-Marie Koltès, Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, and Wajdi Mouawad are interpreted.
      Contents of exercises Application of narratological and other analytical concepts learned in the theoretical part of the course through the interpretation and analysis of selected passages from 19th and 20th century French theater.

      Methods of teaching Application of narratological and other analytical concepts learned in the theoretical part of the course to the interpretation of selected excerpts of 19th and 20th century French theater. Lectures, classes, discussions, reading, use of library resources and appropriate Internet sites, continuous review of mastery of material. Analysis of didactic material. Classes are taught in French.
