They will also learn about the specific challenges of Arabic terminology and scientific writing. Contents of lectures | Terms and Terminology. Language for Specific Purposes. Terminology Issues in the Arabic World: Synonymy, Polysemy, Homonymy, Lack of Arabic Terms. Institutions and Organizations Engaged in Term Formation, Coordination, and Dissemination. Methods of Term Formation: Semantic Change, Derivation, Blending/Portmanteau, Lexical Borrowing, Calques (Loan Translations), Neologisms, and Hybrid Terms. Arabic Scientific/Technical Printed and Electronic Dictionaries and Databases (Bilingual/Multilingual). Technical Translation, CAT tools, and other tools used by translators. | |||
