      The goal This course aims to help students become experts in technical terminology and translation, both in theory and practice. They will also learn about the specific challenges of Arabic terminology and scientific writing. Overall, it prepares them to be skilled Arabic translators while improving their language skills.
      The outcome Students translate technical texts between Arabic and their language, using specialized sources and software tools to enhance accuracy. They make a distinction between LSP and general language. They can use IT in their professional development and translation.

      Contents of lectures Terms and Terminology. Language for Specific Purposes. Terminology Issues in the Arabic World: Synonymy, Polysemy, Homonymy, Lack of Arabic Terms. Institutions and Organizations Engaged in Term Formation, Coordination, and Dissemination. Methods of Term Formation: Semantic Change, Derivation, Blending/Portmanteau, Lexical Borrowing, Calques (Loan Translations), Neologisms, and Hybrid Terms. Arabic Scientific/Technical Printed and Electronic Dictionaries and Databases (Bilingual/Multilingual). Technical Translation, CAT tools, and other tools used by translators.
      Contents of exercises The practical part includes reading and translating texts that can be customized to students' preferences (agriculture, medicine, ecology, technology, industry, etc.). Different types of exercises are done. Students use CAT tools and other tools for translators.
