      The goal The study of the main directions of development of ancient Japanese literature, from its origin, using examples of the most important works.
      The outcome The student gains insight into the origin of Japanese literature, the shift of literary expression from collective to individual expression, gets to know the genesis of Japanese poetry and aesthetic concepts, understands the relationship between literature and religion in the oldest historical records.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures The subject provides an insight into the creation of Japanese literature, the problems of periodization and the trends of ancient Japanese literature (6th century - 794). On the example of the oldest anthology, Man`yoshu, the characteristics of ancient Japanese poetry are analyzed. The literary-historical context of the appearance of the first historical chronicles is reconstructed and, on their example, the relationship between oral and written, between myth and tradition is considered.
