| The goal | Aims to: 1) describe and explore concepts of modernity, modernization and modernism in the women’s/feminist press in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century; 2) identify and analyse the construction of several “ideal” women’s identities/subjectivities in the women’s/feminist and feminophile press as well between the 1890. and 1945 (educated “Serbian woman”, “new woman”, working woman, communist woman…); 3) point to the various aspects of emancipation in the women’s/feminist press (education, right to vote, right to paid work, marriage/divorce, reproductive rights, abortion…), and examine different historical/social/political contexts in which women’s organization and feminists struggled for women’s rights; 4) emphasize significance that artistic/cultural practices (women’s writing and art) as well as criticism (literary, theatre…) have had in the processes of forming modern women identity/subject. | |||
| The outcome | Students will learn about: 1) theory and methodology in (modern and women’s/feminist) periodical studies; 2) women’s and feminist press from the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century (Žena/The Woman, Žena danas/Woman Today, Žena i svet/Woman and the world...); 3) strong relationship between everyday life and women’s/feminist movement, and literary/artistic practices as well. | |||
