The goal Objective of the course is to shed light on the phenomenon of an ideal landscape that is refracted through several aspects of ancient culture: it originates in the earliest Hellenic poetry and in pre-Hellenic fine art, and is used both in the epic and in the lyric, in the drama as well as in the philosophical dialogue and artistic prose, both in sculpture and painting, to become the nucleus of a new genre, created under the auspices of Hellenistic syncretism - idyll.
The outcome The outcome of the course lies in the acquisition of knowledge about the phenomenon of the ideal landscape in ancient literature and art, as well as the understanding of its conceptual and cultural significance. Through the prism of the European philosophy of art, the ideal landscape is generally seen as a form of aesthetization of nature, which becomes the object of aesthetic judgment and is seen not only as pleasant or fruitful, but also as beautiful. In ancient culture, from Homer to Philostratus, the ideal landscape is closely connected with the beyond - understood theologically, eschatologically or symbolically, which is revealed through the analysis of selected literary texts and works of art.
