Contents of lectures | Localization's origin, development, key concepts, and importance. Phases and roles in localization projects. Tools like computer-assisted translation (CAT), terminology management, and quality assurance (QA). Types of content for localization: user interfaces (desktop, mobile, or web apps), online help, marketing content, SEO/SEM campaigns, audiovisual content, video games, and more. Linguistic, cultural, and technical aspects of localization: grammar, syntax, terminology, script, numerals, calendar, dates, units of measurement, colors, images, symbols, maps, local conventions, religious and geopolitical aspects, and more. | |||
Contents of exercises | Applying theoretical knowledge practically: showing how to work on localization projects using CAT tools. Students will work independently and in teams to localize websites, apps, video games, and more. Students will conduct their own research (studying a market they are familiar with and identifying its main requirements). | |||
