    The goal The student acquires relevant knowledge of the most important prose writers and poets of the Spanish Baroque and of their works. He will be able to recognize their characteristics and evaluate their high artistic value both in the context of Spanish literature and of the world literary heritage.
    The outcome Acquisition of the necessary knowledge of the prose and poetic creation of Spain in the Baroque period. Training in the understanding of the origin, development and characteristics of the novel, the most important type of prose of that period, and familiarization with the works of the Spanish classics - Cervantes, Lope, Quevedo, Graciano and others. Acquiring knowledge and acquiring information about poetic tendencies, themes, motifs and metrical forms in the poetry of the most important poets of the period - Gongore, Quevedo and Lope de Vega.

    Contents of lectures Spanish Prose in the Baroque. Development of existing and emergence of new prose types. Novel (chivalric, pastoral, picaresque, Byzantine, allegorical, costumbrista). Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote. Mateo Alemán, Guzmán de Alfarache. F. de Quevedo, Historia de la vida del buscón, Baltasar Gracián, El Criticón. Other types of prose. Baroque poetry. Luis de Góngora, innovations in vocabulary, syntax and use of stylistic figures. Francisco de Quevedo and the satirical-burlesque poetry. Lope, Cervantes as a poet.
    Contents of exercises Exercises, reading assignments, interpretation and analysis of texts, written assignments, presentations and discussions. Independent work, learning with the aid of the computer. Use of electronic resources recommended through the platform MOODLE.
