      The goal To get acquainted with the main features of the presence of Miguel de Cervantes in Serbian literature and culture in the period from the 18th to the 21st century in three areas (translation, influence on domestic literary creation and literary criticism). To understand, through theoretical lectures and the analysis of the work, the basis of this reception, what elements of Cervantes' work were adopted in the new Serbian literature and what forms they took over time. To develop the ability to see Cervantes in the context of Serbian literary and cultural heritage.
      The outcome The student acquires relevant knowledge about the presence and action of the most important Spanish writer and his "Don Quixote" in Serbian literature, in diachrony and synchronicity, theoretically and practically. Accepts information about the peculiarities of the reception of this work in the field of translation, fictional literature and literary criticism by Serbian authors. He is able to see and recognize the peculiarities of the Serbian reception of the art of Cervantes and conclude how the national mentality, the characteristics of culture and historical development are refracted through it.

      Contents of lectures influence on the novel in the 20th century (Smiljanić, Damjanović, etc.). Short story and novella (Domanović, Lazarević, Sremac, Andrić). "Don Quixote" in Serbian literary criticism: the main features. The novels of Cervantes translated into Serbian. "Don Quixote" and "Međugre" on Serbian stages. "Don Quixote" in popular culture in Serbia.
      Contents of exercises Đorđe Popović on Don Quijote and his work - notes, comments, prefaces (reading and analysis of passages). Translations of Quixote by Đorđe Popović - comparison of three versions (1856-7, 1882, 1895-6). Comparison of translations by Đorđe Popović, Duško Vrtunski and Aleksandra Mančić on the example of the same selected passages.Novel: Dositej, Steria, Ignjatović, Smiljanić, Damjanović. Short story and novella: Sremac, Andrić. Transformations of Don Quixote in selected songs of Serbian authors. Reading and interpretation of relevant critical judgments about Cervantes and "Don Quixote" in the 19th century. Reading and interpretation of relevant critical judgments about Cervantes and "Don Quixote" in the 20th and 21st centuries.
