The outcome | Students acquired theoretical and practical knowledge of interpreting (types, techniques, principles of interpreting, etiquette and culture) by applying the acquired knowledge and skills in class, they were introduced to the image of a modern interpreter, types of information in speech, the term translatability and functional equivalence, stylistic characteristics of translation and language characteristics of simultaneous translation, differences compared to consecutive translation and methods of memorization, then the rights, obligations and code of conduct of translators. Students were given the basics for high-quality interpretation. | |||

Contents of lectures | Theoretical Subject, tasks and methods of the theory of interpreting. Types of interpreting (consecutive, simultaneous etc.). Linguistic and interpretive theory. Ways of conveying the meaning of the original. Types of information in speech (referential, predicative, structural-logical, emotional-evaluative, functional-pragmatic). Text structure; introductory constructions; syntactic and other repetitions. A key part of the original message. The relationship between the part and the whole. Stylistic characteristics of the translation. Intonation and logical accent. Specifics of consecutive interprereting. Memorization in consecutive interpreting; receptions of visualization, deverbalization and reformulation. Recording technique. Note the key parts of the message. Abbreviated spelling. Writing using symbols. Characteristics of the language of simultaneous interpreting. Chuchotage. Receive compression and forecasting. Translation from the original and intermediary. Preparations of a simultaneous interpreter. Rights, obligations and code of conduct of translators. Etiquette in translation. Speech culture and interpretation. The tone of the address.
