| The goal | The goals and objectives of the course are: to familiarize students with the literary process of the early 19th century, to study the works of Romantic writers, and to determine the place of the literary process of the first half of the 19th century within the overall development of Russian literature. | |||
| The outcome | The student will be able to understand, explain, and analyze the works of this epoch in Russian literature. The learning outcome of the course is the theoretical and practical proficiency of students in utilizing and applying various approaches, models, and methods in the interpretation of works from the field of Russian Romanticism. | |||

| Contents of lectures | The Formation of Russian Sentimentalism. Poetics. Sentimentalism in the works of Karamzin. Pre-Romanticism and the emergence of Romanticism in Russian literature (Zhukovsky, Batyushkov). The literary movement of 1800–1825. "Discourse of the Lovers of the Russian Word" and "Arzamas". Prose of the Early 19th Century. Romantic Prose. The Russian Gothic Novel. Realistic Prose. Thematic and ideological orientation.
