Gostujuće predavanje dr Kevina Kolirija

Obaveštavamo studente da će u organizaciji sa Američkom ambasadom dr Kevin Koliri održati predavanje na temu “Freedom 250: Cultural Aspects and Teaching Strategies” u četvrtak, 23. aprila u 11.30 sati, u učionici 228. Pozivamo sve zainteresovane koleginice i kolege da prisustvuju predavanju.

Freedom 250: Cultural Aspects and Teaching Strategies

 

Intro: This English Language Specialist program commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by bringing Dr. Kevin P. Colleary to Serbia for teacher trainings and public workshops focused on Freedom 250 themes. The program contributes toward English language instruction while exploring American cultural values and civic participation.

 

Body: To mark America's 250th anniversary, this program offers educators and the public an opportunity to explore American culture and history through the lens of English language learning.

The program centers on Freedom 250 cultural themes, examining how American society has evolved over 250 years and the values that continue to shape the nation today. Teachers will learn innovative pedagogical strategies for integrating cultural content into language instruction, making historical narratives accessible and engaging for English language learners. Dr. Colleary will demonstrate how to use storytelling, primary sources, and interactive activities to help students explore American culture while developing language proficiency.

Participants will gain practical classroom techniques for teaching cultural competency alongside language skills, including methods for facilitating discussions about American history, civic life, and cultural values. The program provides educators with content-driven literacy instruction strategies that can be adapted across grade levels.

Public audience members attending the workshops will engage with American cultural narratives and discover shared values between the United States and Serbia. By exploring how Americans understand and celebrate their 250-year journey, participants will develop deeper cross-cultural awareness and strengthen people-to-people connections between our two nations.

 

Dr. Kevin P. Colleary has taught at Hunter College, CUNY and Fordham University's Graduate School of Education in New York. His research focuses on social studies education, critical thinking, digital literacy, and best practices in teaching and learning. A native New Yorker, Dr. Colleary currently lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal.
