| The goal | Introduction to the subdisciplines of applied linguistics, with a particular focus on glottodidactics. Acquisition of fundamental theoretical knowledge about the most influential approaches and methods in foreign language teaching, understanding of the linguistic and psychological theories on which these methods are based, and analysis of their impact within contemporary foreign language instruction | |||
| The outcome | General learning outcomes – Knowledge of the main directions in glottodidactics and the ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the appropriate application of methods in accordance with learners’ needs. Specific learning outcomes – A well-grounded understanding of key concepts relevant to language learning and glottodidactics; knowledge of the main approaches in foreign language teaching methodology and the theoretical principles on which they are based; knowledge and understanding of the fundamental tenets of contemporary approaches to foreign language instruction. | Contents of lectures | An introduction to, analysis and critical re-examination of the main directions in glottodidactics from its beginnings to the present. Presentation and analysis of key concepts in the field of foreign language learning/acquisition and foreign language teaching methodology, as well as their contextualization within the historical periods in which they emerged. | |||
| Contents of exercises | Analysis of concepts introduced in the theoretical classes, development of students’ critical apparatus through interactive exercises, and analysis of activities corresponding to different approaches and methods in foreign language teaching. | |||
